Freedom as a State of Mind
Solo Exhibition
20 March to 11 April 2027
Claydon Gallery, Quay Arts, Isle of Wight
The philosopher Jean-Paul Satre controversially maintained that all prisoners can choose to be free (because freedom is a conscious state of mind more than a physical state of being). Our thoughts and our decisions about what things mean, create our sense of personal liberty.
Through hand-worked silver and textiles, found substrates, video, music, text and dance, the work in this exhibition invites us to consider how even the most subtle shifts in perspective can radically alter the way we view our life experiences, the extent to which we feel constrained by our circumstances and, ultimately, how we live our lives.
An Exhibition tour will be uploaded here for those who couldn't make it in person. To be kept informed of progress, follow my socials or sign up to my newsletter.
