Memento de Marine Keyring 4cm x 4cm Fine (99.9%) Silver I made this piece by covering seaweed with silver clay paste, built up over 12 layers. It was more tricky than usual because I applied the paste to both sides which meant the heat of the seaweed burning off had to be accounted for. The seaweed was found on a beach in Denmark whilst celebrating our wedding anniversary so I made this as a gift for my lovely hubby :) More images in the album linked to below:
Latvian amber, New Zealand paua and Mexican silver stand together, mounting a show of strength emboldened by the differences between them. They are bound by the leather thread of understanding that arches upwards to the higher powers to which they appeal: please keep us from moving apart. Made for treasured Stephen Bear, someone whose special gift is in bringing people together. The silver was made by making a mould of the paua shell and then taking an impression from the mould in silver clay.
Fine silver; leather chord. Inspired by the New Zealand Hei Tiki who represents the memory of and protection by our ancestors.
fine silver on satin cord
Pendant in fine silver with liver of sulphur patina. For this piece, I took inspiration from the fascinating Maori panels in Christchurch Art Gallery, each telling an ancient story. I thought about the way a family story is woven out of sharing our memories with our children and adding our experiences as we move through life together.
fine silver on a sterling snake chain
Fine silver and seed pearls - I made this piece by wrapping strips of silver clay sheet around a cork clay core which burned away on firing leaving the solid silver, hollow form. Its quirky diamond shape reminded me of the shape of the Isle of Wight, so it became a gift for my special friend Emma who has come to the Island for Summer happiness ever since she was born...
Antique Latvian amber bead wrapped in fine silver.

Inspired by "Alison Lapper Pregnant" by Marc Quinn which was exhibited on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. This work, like his, is a celebration of the new model of female heroism - naked, disabled, pregnant - yet so proud, so beautiful, so powerful. fine silver pin brooch with sterling pin.
