GHOST DANCE II
2019
Cotton and fine silver (sealed against tarnishing); mounted on acrylic painted canvas
20cm x 50cm x 3.5cm
Inspired by fishing nets lost at sea (known as “ghost nets”), Ghost Dance II explores the potential for intense beauty in our impact on the natural world. Our life in nature leaves many marks and some will eventually become one with the canvas. Perhaps, occasionally, a missing net may integrate into undersea society and ultimately become accepted as one of their own. This work is exploring possible new definitions of wildlife and reflects both our connection to and disconnection from nature; both the destruction of the environment and the creation of new environments. It looks to a future where human input becomes an integral part of every “natural” experience.
Exhibited in the the Quay Arts Biennial Open Exhibition 30 Nov 2019 - 1 Feb 2020.
